The way we measure if individual and group therapy have been effective is:
a) If the seizure-like episodes have stopped or gone down in frequency
b) If other aspects of life are better (i.e. back to work, studying, driving, active out of the home, etc)
c) If quality of life, self image and interpersonal relations are improved
Once the patient and psychologist confirm that noticeable improvements of this type have been made, treatment can start winding down. However, because life is unpredictable and throws us curve balls from time to time, all "graduates" of the PNES treatment program know that they are
welcome to drop in on monthly group meetings to touch base with the psychologists and some of the other graduates if needed.
Virtual Psychogenic Non-epileptic Seizures (PNES) support group
Time: 12:00-1:00PM
What you need: A phone
When: Third Wednesday of the month (the group closes for the summer in July and August and starts up again in September)
The support group is virtual. All you need is a phone and a computer to participate.
